about

This is the newest song on the album, written in 2013 at St. Mary’s in Bethel. The refrain came first and just stuck in my head, so I wrote a poem around it about the Holy Family – and about every family and their awesome calling to transform society by becoming mini-societies of love.

lyrics

track 08 – Nazareth (Matthew 2:23)

deep within a simple peasant’s home
a father has his wife and son to call his own
life obscures the grandeur of the truth
that saintly souls do dwell, secure beneath their roof

Nazareth, Nazareth, they will come
you can find the road to life in Nazareth (2x)

holiness between the lathe and plane
salvation being proved in daily joys and pain
nothing are the threesome to the great
yet in their simple house, tranquility their fate

and the man takes his child in his arms,
casts a love-look at his wife
through the dirt-stained streaks of sweat
thanks his God for such a life
every aching day of work
every chair crafted with tears
every mundane trial or joy
a source of grace throughout the years
