about

This song was written in 2007 in Rome. I went through a phase when I wrote a succession of Eucharistic songs, and I wasn’t initially planning to put this on the album. This song was actually recorded before on a 2010 side-project called “Songs for Divine Worship” but following its release on that mini-album, we played it at a few Masses and Eucharistic Adoration and it got great reviews, so my friends encouraged me to re-record it – this time as a duet with the immensely talented Karen Mattera – for this CD.

lyrics

track 10 – not as mere bread (1 Cor 11:23-26)

our vision and taste cannot see Your face
but only faith can see the Lord of majesty
Your presence is true, and grace makes us sure
that tasting Your love, we hunger for more

not as mere bread, not as mere wine,
but as You truly are, Body and Blood
in thanksgiving we bow, humbled by Your gift
of Eucharistic love, the Presence of our God

on that holy night, when You laid down Your life,
You left us a gift of ineffable price:
“This is My Body, This is My Blood
of the New Covenant, a sign of My love.”

in faith we receive the Lamb Who was slain,
Who died for our sins and is risen again
and we wait for the day when all is made new
in Your house we’ll remain, forever with You
