about

This is the oldest song on the album, written in 2003. On our annual silent weekend retreat at Steubenville, I was reflecting on the beauty of a vocation to the priesthood, and this song is what resulted. The end hip-hop music is from another side project, “The Lion and the Lamb” that I did for a friend of mine, Fr. Matthew Krankall. He was intending to put it in a visual novel, but that never took off, so we had this fun little track laying around – might as well put it on a CD! Many thanks to Fr. Sam Kachuba for his devastating violin solo!

lyrics

track 11 – give me souls (Matthew 28:19-20)

Lord, I’ve heard Your voice, calling amidst the noise
when I was wrapped up in myself, in the world and all its joys
but You have set me free, put a fire in my blood,
oh enraptured me in the beauty of Your love

give me souls and nothing more
I will take them, present them to my Lord
give me souls, you can keep the rest
I will lead them on the way to Heaven

all I once desired I now hold in contempt
You, my heavenly prize; You, my one intent
all this world is vain, a bitter exile for me
‘till I see You, Lord; behold Your majesty

Lord, how You put my old self to death
tried by fire and purified by love
You send me forth to a world in mourning
preaching the Cross to a people in pain
